What is the answer to gun violence in America

Americans are not getting the entire story regarding gun violence.   If you do a Google search on gun violence you will get page after page of organizations with stories pushing the reasons for gun control and run reform laws.   While I agree something needs to be done, it would help to have all the information available.

The U.S. House is looking at a proposal to increase the age restrictions of assault rifles to 21 years of age from 18 and banning high capacity magazines.   I think that is a reasonable move in light of the recent gun violence.   However, even considering a ban on the 9MM handgun goes to the heart of the 2nd amendment, the right to keep and bear arms.      The 2nd amendment says “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”.     The 2nd amendment was enacted by the newly freed United States of America because they had just learned the lessons of what happens when a tyrannical government has control of your lives.    This is a freedom Americans should not give up easily.

We should increase security in America’s schools.   We should hold criminals accountable for bad behavior.  I know the term criminal is offensive to some, but it refers to a person who commits a “crime”.   That person would be a criminal.

Speaking of any gun control measure, what do the experts think?   What do police officers think?  Has anyone thought to ask them?    I had to dig deep on the internet to find their position.  It was buried in all the articles about gun reform and why guns are evil.   The vast majority of police do not think that taking guns away from law abiding citizens will make America safer.   Read this story on Police1.com
